go to the scrap yard and pull off the back axles from escort vans or the like, they have the drum brakes and leaf suspension already, £50 should get 2
good axles with wheels. Thats the most expensive part of a trailer build usually and given the normal miles a trailer does what’s the point of buying
new stuff? I saw one guy use the master cylinder as well to give it hydraulic brakes rather than the cables where the hitch just pushed the piston
back when the car braked. Much simpler than all that cable malarkey.

I've got a 'locost' trailer in the pipeline for my dax (if I ever get round to it)
one of the things I had to clear out to get my donor car in was a rotten old caravan
a few hours with a grinder and a big hammer and I had a nice galv'd chassis with a 1 Ton gross, fully independant suspension (coil sprung)
its not too big but will need chopped a little and the brakes / hitch will need a service - but the best bit is it cost £0

Surely the best bit is that you're taking a caravan off the road

I wish I'd taken some pics of the demolition - it was quite good fun
also I wish I'd kept the alloy sheet and sold it for scrap, at the time I didn't think it was worth the effort of seperating it from the
wood + steel, but the scrap alloy prices now ...........

Another caravan off the road - Result
A friend of the family donated there trusty old caravan to me for my holiday. I made a few minor improvements prior to departing. It took less than an
hour with a reciprocating saw to make it a flat bed trailer, and within 24hours had sold the ali for £90 (£20 if the wife is reading this). So first
few days beer money sorted. And one less traffic jam.
Now I just have to finish my car, then convert trailer into proper car transport.
