TIG welder. Which one?
I am going over to TIG.
What machines are members using?
I do not do much welding myself so I do not need an 'all singing, all dancing' model.

tig is v expensive, i got a chinese tig welder and it was DOA 
argon cost £80, regulator etc all came to best part of £100 - and the dam thing wouldn't work. all wasted.
mig and arc are cheaper and far easier.
you are looking at best part of £1000 fir a reasonable european tig, which prices most out of the market, unless you really need to weld alu.
try www.mig-welding.co.uk for all your welding questions, use the search function, the tig question is asked at least once a week.

if you're not doing much welding, go with MIG. cheaper and easier.
if you need to do alu, some migs can do it, but it doesn't look amazing, but again, www.mig-welding.co.uk will show you what can be done and how

I got a Rehman from Germany off Ebay.
Cost under £200 Including postage.
Works fine. Doing some of my best welding ever.
Downside is the gas is expensive.
Mig is much cheaper.
If your set was DOA, they should replace it!. I would persue this via the vendor.

What he said, or through the ebay claims procedure.
I also got a rehmann Tig inverter which is the nuts. Taught myself to TIG with it. Easy to use, and looks cleaner than MIG or ARC sometimes. I use
CO2 instead of Argon, which is ok, but runs a little hot.

How about gas welding instead of tig? How do the two compare?

Don't weld anything structural with Tig if you are not using the correct gas, you will oxidise your tungsten into the weld pool.

Unlucky. I've got an Lincoln Electric Invertec V270 (With a damaged HF, so I scratch start) for £250. Regulator was £50. Argon, well I
don't know where yours come from, but I pay around £16 a refill from BOC. Bottle Hire is £40. Say another £50 for tips and hose.
So my total was £400. I say MY total, its actually a company asset.
