weld down under's magic torch?
Anyone had any experience with these?
Would be fantastic if it does what ot says it can.

Not sure if this is what you are talking about. but if it's the Henrob oxyacetylene torch that claims to weld as well/better than a tig i.e.

Read here: http://www.tinmantech.com/html/faqsbuyahenrob.html but remember he does sell torchs so might be biased. However the whole site seems
excellent (lots of info on gas/tig welding, and metal bashing in general.
The guy has restored some nice toys for people with serious wedge so probably has some talent

is it me or does that look too simple to weld mild,stainless and aluminium using a gas torch, makes me wonder if should go that route rather than
buying mig or a tig machine.

Yeh I think that too. What could you spend getting tools to weld thin ally and cut 24mm steel? A fair chunk anyway.
Some more research me thinks.

Gas is great when you get the technique right, the feel is great you can see what you are doing and everything happens in a slow controllable way. The
downsides are you end up putting a lot more heat into the workpieces resulting in the potential for greater distortion as things cool down again. The
other downside is the cost of gas. There are only two suppliers British Oxygen ( BOC) and Air Products. Both charge for bottle rental BOC by the year
Air Products monthly and they actually rent to you on a daily charge so when you return bottles they are no longer charged. Either way Gas will cost
you about £100 a year before you start looking at the gas cost itself.
TIG is as good for steel, quicker and has a good feel, TIG gear for Aluminium is extremely expensive, for steel and stainless you can get an inverter
off ebay for less than a Mig it uses one gas at a lower volume than Oxy Acetelene and you can get cylinders with built in regulators from Air products
as well as small expensive disposeable cylinders from Machine mart.
I was going to do my chassis with Gas but have ben "converted" to TIG by Shug on this forum!

There may be in Scotland, we have Energas and some local firms like Engweld round here who don't have as much administrative charges as BOC and
Air Products. They still rent you the bottle but are a lot cheaper for refills.
