crush tubes
i need to make a crush tube to prevent a 10mm bolt deforming a piece of 25mm square tube. Im guessing a piece of 13mm 16g tube wont take a 10mm bolt
down the middle? Does anyone have any tips? How about 13mm 20g, or maybe 19mm tube with a washer welded on each side to keep the bolt central? Might
seem like a daft question, im sure i could sort it myself, but id like to see if anyone has a good solution that i might've missed.

FWIW, this bolt will be one of 4 holding a freelander diff in place. I like the idea of welding a 3mm washer inside as this will make it easier to
remove the diff (not such a tight fit)

I had a similar problem when I was making up the cradle for my Fireblade engine.
I went along to my local B&Q superstore where they stock both M10 bolts and mild steel tube.
Picked up a bolt and went over to the tube section and went through them until I found one that the bolt fitted snugly!

Use the 16g tube and run a 10mm drill through it

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Thats what i should've done pete, ive ended up just using the 19mm tube though cos i wanna get it done! Plus, it means that my holes dont need
to be too accurate, as i can correct it when i put the washer on. Cheers!

hey, me too - most of the tubing seems to be 1 mm wall thickness and comes in 2 mm increments so ideal for the purpose.
