rounded off bolt removal

my clutch pins on my vvc engine have a star head I have managed to get all of them off apart from 1 by knocking a hexagon socket over them grips good enough

but the one is just slipping even with a smaller hexagon head on its down to 5mm

theyve been out recently so not rusted etc

but just cant get enough leverage without it slipping

I couldnt get the proper inverted star tool from anywhere and want to replace them with proper hex bolts
any ideas anyone

to save me keep waisting time

by star head you mean 12 points, a bit like torz but in reverse.

Can you get a 12 point spanner on, if you can, then that would be prefered.

Is there a washer under the head? What I have done in the past is to attack the washer with a saw baled so there is less material between the bolt head and surface it sits on.

Have you tried heating up the area?

As it has started to lose grip, 12 pt spanner or hammer the head to splay it out a touch, then hammer on the socket all the way down, fit the ratceht and give a good whack with rubber mallet.

No doubt your next post will be how to remove a sheared bolt from a vvc engine.

Can you tack weld something else onto it that you have the correct sized tool for and undo it that way?

No welder. so do you have a rattle gun? If not what about impact driver and cut a slot if you have access. Yeah moles if stud is protruding.

5 mm? how big was it to start?

any chance of a photo? sounds like you may need to drill or find a mate with a wleder to stick a nut on the end.
