No-Gas Mig Welders
Hi
I will be finally starting my build in a few weeks after a year of hassling my dad to clear the garage. I was looking at mig welders and i saw a
'No-Gas Mig Welder' is this better or worse than gas mig welders or is there no difference?
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Personally I wouldnt bother with one. They tends to be a bit crap...they basically have flux cored wire so you dont need gas, but I have heard they
can produce appalling welds... Get yourself a decent normal MIG

I went the no-gas route and its not amazing...does the job, but its messy and the welds are crap..
Its a lot easier to learn to weld using a gas setup...

Confused but excited.

They produce a lot of spatter, which looks and is very messy and takes more cleaning up. However having said that I personally have not had any
trouble with bad welds. You are limited to about 4mm thick metal though.
Given an bigger budget, I would go for a proper set with an Argon bottle though.
Like all tools, get the best you can afford.
Tell them about the bent treacle edges!

I've used no-gas wire with no probs, it is messier than gas (major spatter ) but with practice can produce good welds (surprising how much
difference the wire makes to the quality of the weld), I wouldn't like to try it on a low power set though (aim for 150amp minimum) as the only
good wire i've found is .9mm which may cause problems on low power migs IMHO
Cheers

Mine does both, the no-gas is great for outside when it is windy. Otherwise, I always use gas as it is better and probably cheaper.
