You need an EBay lesson which goes like this....

Never ever bid a penny less than the absolute maximum you would be willing to pay and do it 20 seconds before the auction ends.

That way it stops you doing the old "just another fiver", plus it stops a bidding war where people pay way over the odds.

It can't go wrong as it can't go over what your maximum is and it will automatically bid for you. If it went for more then you weren't willing to pay that much were you!!

I put a bid of £205 on a virtually new Sealey 180 Siegen welder, thinking it was bound to go for more than that (cheapest actually new is about £320.

Then I forgot all about it, had a look later and found I'd won it. Should arrive tomorrow (bought it from a firm that does returned Sealey stuff)

Goes to show (said the old folks) you never can tell

John

My best 'saturday night purchase' was a Fiat Uno 45 Fire

It got the mrs to work and back alright for a month or so, then one of the wheels, or more precisely the lower wishbone, decided to part company with the rest of the vehicle at a not inconsiderable speed (for an Uno ) on the M3. And then started the saga of Green Flag trying to charge us for recovery because they apparently don't cover 'mechanical failures', which to me would rule out 99.9% of breakdowns...

As John did, put a max bid in for as much as you want to pay and then return to it after the end of bidding. If you have got it for what you wanted to pay or less you have been successful.

My mate bought himself a 3 piece suite for his flat thinking he had got a cracking drunken bargain. Turned out to be dolls house furniture!

That is awesome!

McLannahan off here and I were partaking in a shandy or two one night and forgot all about going through ebay motors, then a few days later the email comes and we'd won the GolfGTI we bid on!

Turned out to be the best car he'd owned!!! And it went for £160 ish...
