DIY dentistry
don't laugh....
just been to the dentist and got filling done - one of these white fillings.
difference between these and the silver amalgam ones is that with the latter you can bite down so the filling can be profiled to match your teeth
whereas the white ones are built up in stages.
well the filling is a bit proud so even though the dentist timmed it down 3 times it is still not right.
I have a dremel and small diamond burrs .... ok so you can see where this is heading ....
looking for ideas on how to mark the tooth to find the high spots, something like engineers blue but for teeth.
I don't suppose anyone has done this?

I've used a small hand file in the past which worked. Just take your time.
I've also had one done by the dentist and he seemed to just play iy by ear with me keep opening and shutting to see what else needed grinding.

Don't do anything in my opinion.
I had one exactly like that when I last visited the dentist. He assured me that just daily use of my teeth would wear down the profile to match my
other teeth. For two days it seemed annoying and then by the third day it had worn down itself and didn't notice it at all from that moment on.

It will smooth itself out in a few weeks all by itself.
*... This is coming from a man who once pulled out a broken tooth with a Gerber multi-tool while working in a Bosnia-backwater! Dentist said I made a
decent job of it!

Bite down on a bit of carbon paper. Thats what my dentist does, although I'm sure its probably very expensive "dentistry grade"
carbon paper!
Or you could just go back and get it done properly.

2nd thoughts no don't, go back and make a nuisance of yourself at the dentist, he's been paid for a job he hasn't done
correctly......

good lord i cant believe you are thinking of sticking a dremel in your mouth! i would rather like to see a set of pictures of the hole in your
cheek afterwards though

As said, go back and get him to do it properly or wait a few weeks for it to wear down.

I got myself a cheap battery dremel style tool, it wouldnt even shine a 2 pence piece and you could stop it with the slightest pressure between your
fingers. Cant remember the make but got another cheap electric one a "fairline" which is really good. Chops through GRP and metal.
The first job i did with it was a locost dental job. I woke up with a sharp chipped tooth that I ground down till i could see a dentist.
Wouldnt recommend that though. Horrible.

I have a mate who broke a tooth on some scratchings while picking up a camper van (he had a long drive back and the dude was hungry - I don't
blame him for stopping for pig snacks).
Anyway it left a sharp bit that was annoying him and this was on a Friday night, couldn't get to dentist til Monday.
So he got his dremel with the bit thats like sandpaper wrapped around a rubber cylinder (I'm sure you know the one I mean) and all was going
well until the sandpaper broke and was then flapping around his on the end of the dremel bit at high speed inside his mouth!
He whipped it out quick (as you would) but it whacked his lip on the way out and he ended up with a fat lip.
But no real damage inside his mouth.
And his tooth was nice and smooth.
He's since borrowed my gerber multitool and used the file on that to smooth one down.
Made me wince while he did it. Passed it back to me with loads of white lines on the file from his teeth.

I got a filling done 2 weeks ago and it was totaly the wrong shape but as my dentist told me it would it has worn into shape and is now perfect A
quick question before you use the dremel. Have you ever used one before looking in a mirror???
Ps The dentist only noticed i needed a filling after i had to go there with a smashed tooth  I was sliding under the car and the trolley jack
handle was in the way so i puuled it out too fast and used my teeth to slow it down! Ouch!!

^^^ yeah, think you are right about the carbon paper - dentist was sticking this in my gob to bite on and there were black/grey marks on my tooth.
will give it a few days as it is unlikley the filling will be as hard as tooth enamel, otherwise mr deremel here we come!

Just a side note, if you do decide to do it, don't forget to video it.
If you mess it up then we can all have a laugh and you may make a few quid sending it into the telly.

I would deffo get someone to do it for you, unless you are good at doing things backwards!
I used to use a dremel for trimming my fingernails, used to work really well just had to be careful with it!

It will be more difficult the further back it is in your mouth, just take care slowly does it ! I had to pull half a molar out last year with a pair
of pliers and emery paper after I broke it in half top to bottom late one sunday night, bugger it knacked like hell, the dentist
job done and the dentist removed the resut.
