If you take the guard off.....
No, don't do it.
It's stupid.
Very stupid.
Kids - avoid the temptation and always wear your gloves. They're your first line of defence for when the above goes wrong. Not wearing gloves
just adds to the stupidity.
No pics, you really don't want to see it. Suffice to say that this scar is definitely a keeper. Hopefully the finger will also be a keeper.

Must have been a weekend for grinder incidents.
Had a lucky escape myself, just got a deepish cut as a gentle reminder...
Whole heartidly agree, USE THE GUARD!
I was very, very lucky.
Be careful folks 
It looks like the Midget is winning at the moment......

Yup. Never take the guard off a grinder. EVEN WHEN USING A FLAP DISC.
Luckily I was wearing gloves at the time but it still managed to remove the end of my gloves rather quickly.... And they were scminky pinky Ringers
Original gloves too 
which I also found aren't weld-proof after a big blob of molten metal melted through the side of them onto my finger Ouch!!!

Ow. Get well soon.
Another top tip is not to turn it round to get into a tight spot. Fortunately I was wearing two layers of eye protection which stopped the fountain
of sparks before they hit anything important.

The amount of NHS time/cash that this hobby has cost!!! 
They could afford to just buy us all a Caterham!!!
Did some sillies with the grinder myself, although always wore goggles and gloves (apart from the one time I caught the back of my hand with The
Tool).
Fortunately managed to avoid hospital visits with these, the only one was when I sprayed brush restorer into my eyes accidentally.
Hurt like hell even after holding (eyes open) head under tap for 5 minutes- yuk! So went to hospital as precaution.
All was ok in the end and atleast I got a free eye test!!!!

Don't forget the sparks detroy ceramic and glass.
I hadn't factored into my £250 build cost a replacement double glazed window and an unused bathroom suite being stored in the garage!!!
But it did make a brilliant 'blast effect' on my favourite mug!!!

I have a couple of 5" grinders and the discs seem to last a lot longer than 41/2" ones. They were cheap and cheerful ones from Aldi as
well. I was in a foundry fettling for enough years to know you don't do anything without gloves and glasses. I did manage to stab myself in the
hand sharpening a knife the other day though.

Hmm. Might have done that too, not saying. And might have managed to touch the disc on the back and might have filled my pants and realised the error
of my ways and replaced the guard. Maybe..

The pain is now subsiding and I'm cacking myself a bit less, but driving tomorrow will be something of a chore, as will shaving, eating with a
fork (I'm left handed) etc. etc.
Some people need to learn lessons the hard way...

I said to her, "I'll just nip out and buzz off these couple of tube ends before dinner. Then It'll just be wire brushing then
painting.".

I could fairly do with having an up close look at a finished Z powered car. Even getting to hear one would probably inspire me.

Yeah it's roadworthy, insured and taxed. Just waiting for a dry day. Can go outside and rev it a bit if you want!
