3/8 NPT nut

I've got sensors for my megasquirt unit, I'm after a couple of nuts that I can weld in place for the sensors to sit in. The thread I need is 3/8 NPT (American National Pipe Thread) :/

Firstly why is it called 3/8 (which is around 10mm isn't it?) when the thread I need is closer to 17mm? secondly, where can I get a couple of these nuts?

Pipe thread sizes refer to the bore of the pipe on which they are designed to be used.

Sure someone can knock you some threaded bosses up.

had a similar question the other day, the 3/8" refers to the i.d of the pipe its supposed to fit with.

sorry, thats a terrible description. i'll try again later if someone else doesn't get there first...

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Use a 3/8" NPT tee piece and cut it up. You'll have three bosses then!

3/8" NPT is a tapered thread.
You really need to use a 3/8" NPT tap to tap a weld in boss.

U2U me your address and I'll send you one.

And for info, the female part of a tapered thread isn't tapered. The male part is.

I think that is incorrect. Both the male and female threads are tapered.

Certainly the taps I have are clearly tapered, and not just the lead in!
