I would guess it would depend on how powerful the press was but from past posts on here I think it distorts somewhat.

In my experience it will ripple on the inside then crack on the outside so I paid £15 a bend at a mandrel place.

I however did not try filling with sand and capping so it may be possible as per various utube vids

Been there got the T-shirt including filling with sand etc on some seamless 1 1/2". This was with a bender which simply applied to force in one place with a die. All attempts were pretty useless. In the end I took it took a local fabricator who has an amazing workshop right outside his house. He used a bender similar to the US pro tools one and the bends were very neat and tidy. I think the key was that the force moves as the bend is applied and the tube complies.

Do some searching on youtube to find out how it's done. There are some films on this subject. If you search on this site you should get there as well.

Personally, I wouldn't bother trying to do this myself, unless you have plenty of CDS tube to give it a couple of tries.

You should be OK with 1/8 wall, Bent my Roll bar and a couple of bike engine bars with a dry bollock bender, without using sand.
Getting the dimensions right takes some working out though.
Cheers,
Bob
