Oil pressure tester

You've guessed it. The bloody warning light has reappeared on the day i was going to drive it for the first time

Does anyone know where i can get an oil pressure tester from a highstreet store? Halfords would have been my first choice as i could have used my discount but they dont seem to have anything on their website.

best bet would be a pressure gauge mechanical type, you could probably get one from a screppy from a Mini (Austin) not BMW at least you can keep it conected so wont be a wast of money.

I personally think these are less prone to failure

Have you tested the pressure switch it may be this that is the fault

Down the breakers indeed, or find an old car motor factor in your area for some old stock.

Failing that it is someone like SMC who do MG spares.

Iv unscrewed the sender but i cant get the switch undone. The spanner keeps slipping and is beginning to round the edge.

I would expect it to be 7/16" AF if you have only metric spanners 11mm should be a close tight fit.

I have a standard 52mm/2" mechanical gauge lying around but I don't have the capillary tube .

Cheers. I went out and got some AF spanners and managed to get the switch off. It seems to work fine but my Grandad (ex mechanic) seems to think that the engine would be knocking pretty quickly if there was no oil pressure and we had it running for about a minute with no knocking at all.

I also managed to drive it back into the garage. That thing has some power!!!
