Welding advice

Hello chaps
i have a bit of welding to do on the chassis and wanted to run something by you to see if you think it will cause a problem.

i seem to remember from somewhere that if you weld the chassis while the alternator is connected it can knacker it. is this true or is it just some daft wives tale i've picked up?

regards

paul

It is possible but very unlikely.
Best bet is to remove the -ve lead from battery, protects all the eus from damage (again unlikely but possible)

Most have an electronic damper gismo thing which clamps over the battery terminals to protect everything. You can cause loads of damage to modern cars just by disconnecting the battery. Audi A3/TT's have a really nasty habit of blowing the instrument cluster, which at £600 can lower the margin on a job!

If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation
