Painting Carbon Fibre 'Effect' Wings...

... I have a decent set of cycle wings on the car, but they're that nasty looking CF Effect material (which I hate!).

Anyone ever tried painting over this stuff? How did you get on?

I could quite easily test it, but right now the wings are worth one or two quid if I flog them... but 50p if I try to paint them and it fails miserably!

just give it a go, and if you mess it up get some real carbon ones from carbon mods!

Will destroy them tomorrow Daniel!

PS - Do you have a pair of the CM wings? If so, how have you found them? I only ask as the set I got a couple of years back were pretty poor quality.

When you say 'CF effect material' do you mean a vinyl skin or something in a clear gel coat? If its vinyl then just peel it off and if its the latter, then a good coat of etch primer followed by your choice of topcoat should do the trick. If its textured then lots of elbow grease will be needed.

If you fancy some wrap-around arches, I understand that TMC Motorsport can now supply a version much cheaper than MNR.

I think you should just have a go

then sell them to me for 50p

not that I am in wayway trying to push you into doing something just so that I can gain much needed parts for little money

Silly question really, but what is so bad about them as is? They are bound to get scratched eventually anyways, and from a distance they look grey/black anyhow.
