what and how to build a flat raised surface to build your chassis on????

we're going to use two heavy duty folding trestles from Big W (dirt cheap) with 4 lengths of 2x2 across them, and a sheet of plywood across the
top. about 18mm I think the ply is.
why do it this way? because the 2x2s and ply were free

3/4" MDF is a pretty good base, if you can find a damaged 4x8 sheet on sale it's pretty cheap too. You can use a hole saw near where the
chassis members go to make it easy to clamp them down with G-clamps for welding. It's handy to have some sturdy way to level it out if your
work area is not level - many tasks are much easier to work on a level surface.
