Large 240v electric motors
Hi All.
There has been a few threads on fitting large single phase motors to what was a 3 phase machine lately
so I thought if I posted this it may be of help to some one.
A while ago I rescued a set of pyramid slip rolls from the scrap yard and cut them down to a more usable size. (1m)
Stage two of the plan was to add an electric motor as the hand winder is too much like hard work, but the motor
would need to go in both forward and reverse. I also added a reduction gearbox to cut the speed down.
I bought a new 1.5 hp (1.1kw) 4 pole reversible 240v motor (1400 rpm) off eBay for £83 +£10 p&p
and a reversing switch for £40 + £5.
This sort of set up might suit a lathe for instance, if originally 3 phase.
Stage three will be the safety guards.
If this thread creates any interest I'll post pics of the wiring.

glad to see you got that switch sorted. looked like you was mid head scratch when i stopped in for my exhaust the other day 
have you rolled anything on it yet?

Mmmm. Electrics are not my strong point, but I think I've got there.
They've rolled 6" pipe, 600mm long from 3mm plate.

I have already caught the lead from my 4.5" grinder in those cogs.

Just to finish the thread off, a pic of the guard.
I wouldn't want to squash anything precious in those cogs would I.

Thanks, and well spotted John. First time its been used on mild steel.
When funds allow I may fit a reversible motor to my pillar drill.
I get pee'd off winding taps out by hand.

Paul, I'm ashamed to say that I used my stretcher on the stainless steel rear wing grilles which must be abuse. However, it still has its teeth
so I think I got away with it!
