Compressor safety valve?

I've got a clarke compressor that never switches off because it bleeds the air out of the safety valve (about 4" long vertical thing, with a nipple on the top) sticking out of the receiver tank.

It starts bleeding off at around 75-85psi, which is why I imagine it never switches off (I expect the pressure switch is set around 100-120psi).

Are these safety valves adjustable? Or might it need a clean etc.?

I think that they are a standard part on loads of compressors.

I had exactly the same problem on a Bambi compressor I had and bought a generic replacement from e-bay. About £9 and looks like it was made in the same factory.

It should be marked with the pressure setting, they are available in a variety values, if you change it dont go above the safe limit stamped on resevoir for obvious reasons

have you tried pulling the "nipple" with a pair of pliers. There'll be a big release of presure so don't jump too far. The released air might blow out some debris and let it seal. Otherwise just get a new valve.
