I'm looking to get a Honda 125 scooter. I'm 46 with a clean car licence for 29 years. My car insurance is £270 for 20K miles a year, MK
Indy £108 a year...so how much can a scooter be??
£330! for 3K miles...How can this be? Any tips on getting it down?

Ditto.
I bought a Honda C90 to do a charity ride from John O'Groats to Landsend. The insurance was £245. At the time I also had a GSX750 and that was
£125......go figure!

The ways things are stacking up I might as well pinch one and pay the fine! Called Honda to check servicing cost, they say £75 every 2.5k miles with
increase to £100 for a major! So could be £400 for 12k miles if I went that route (not that I will) seems to be a nice little earner for everyone but
the buyer. How on earth do all those kids run them...

they aint doing 12k miles
With some small diesel tin tops doing 70-80mpg there is not longer a cost saving in running a scooter in my opinion.
Do you have a full bike licence, how long for and how many years no claims? If your on a 125 as a learner it will be more expensive...

Fit a 750cc engine and the cost will come down

Had a honda CBR400RR a few years back.
Got 50mpg riding it sensibly. Less than £90 TPFT for the last 3 years.
Low tax rate.
New Chain and exhust 1st year then just OIL and pads tyres from then on.
Bigger bike tend to eat tires.
5k miles per set. and thats £200ish.

Last year (before missus got her car back on the road) 55 plate Aprilia sr50 was going to cost me about £80-90 for the year...
Then again you could always do this

I commute 80miles a day on a 125cc bike,I'm averaging over 100mpg,£16 a year road tax £65 insurance. Making a big saving even compared to the
latest fuel efficient cars.

EIGHTY miles a day? That's a big commute on a 125, how long does that take you? I was stationed about 15 ish miles from home for a while and
that was a best-part-of-an-hour commute on the moped (although the 6am traffic was non-existent and I could go full whack all the way)
