heavy duty 3 core flex needed
Evening all, does anyone know where I can get some mains 3 core flex rated at 30amp plus?
Its for my Tig welder, the lead that is on it is too short so I want to replace it.
The higher current rating the better as on full the welder will pull 99amp at 240v 
Im unlikely to run it in max and the biggest RCD I can get for the consumer unit is about 50amp so some cable about that rating would be ideal.

hi there, i would use the sy flex as found here
i would get 6mm 4 core sy flex and not use one of the cores.

I know electricty is a strange mistress, isnt the current draw different to the acttual rating of the cable?

I replaced my 180amp MIG welders lead with 1.5mm cable from Wickes

what size cable is on it know???
as if it will pull 99 amps, you are looking at 25mm 3 core cable, which is huge, draw. i dont think single phase welders could even pull that much.
is that the output???

No that is definately the input. Ive tried to take a photo of the info plate but its out of focus so close up. The output is up to 310amp on full.
The machine is a marshall dynabolt similar to a miller dial arc and is about the size of a super market trolley.
The welder has a 32amp blue plug on it and the existing cable is about 3/4 inch thick.
This is no baby DIY welder its a beast!

hmm, 3/4 inch thick 3 core flex i reckon will be 6mm tri rated flex, will see if i can get a link for you

bear in mind residential homes have (in theory according to a electricity board spark) a max 100amp incommer fuse, although when they replaced my
meter unit they replaced it with 80amp saying that was the standard and he wasn't allowed to put it back up to 100amp.
That feed has to cover your house and garage. If you want to pull 50+ amp in your garage make sure you haven't got the misses in the house with
all the lights on, oven on, dishwasher and washing machine etc.

can not find a place to order online 6mm tri rated flex, but there will be a wholesalers near you, which should have it
or go for the 6.0mm sy flex

I tried rexel senate electrical near work but the biggest they had was 15amp stuff for caravans.
There is a CEF down the road from me so could try tomorow.
Ive had it a couple of months now and am itching to try it. i got a few spares off santa ( shrouds, collets, tungstens ect) and yesterday I resprayed
the covers in the original colour so it looks like new now.
It also came with a water cooled torch as a spare so this is no toy!

I got a length of tough high-amperage stuff from a local builders' tool supply shop. Mine was 4-core but I believe they also had 3-core
cable.
It had a tough outer layer designed to survive on building sites, although it was very flexible.

I have 30m of top quality industrial flex - three core. Search my for sale section in my photo archive.
Used to run a 200A mig on the end of it 30m from the house - £60
Im in Northumberland.
