Inverter arc welder advice

I have never learnt to electric weld but want to learn.
After having my neighbour do some welding for me with his 140 amp Parweld inverter arc welder,I decided that I need to learn to weld.
Has anyone got any recomendations for welders.
The cheaper the better.

Go straight to MIG. Machine Mart (Clarke) are as good as anything to start with.

clarke 151te gets good reviews, i've got one and its very good (not a pro machine obviously, but very capable)
will do up to 5-6mm steel on a 16amp plug, and is quite happy doing chassis tube on a 13amp plug

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Yeah, lot of these about.

I needed portability so although more expensive ended up with a ESAB caddy 160i which has done me (as a rank amateur) very well producing good welds in both thin and heavy plate splitting the cost with my parents on the understanding i will do any welding on there narrowboat FOC as and when required.
