WiFi OBD readers
Anyone had any experience with Advance Iphone Ipad Ipod Touch Wifi WLAN Diagnostic Tool OBD2 Scan Code Reader | eBay ?
Or if you have use a different one, can you make a recommendation?
It's for the iPad and the Bluetooth on it is crap

I use one of them OBD connectors for my tin top, though mine transmits via blue-tooth. I run it in conjunction with an Android app called
"Torque" and together they work very well indeed.
I get all , if any fault codes, it also finds what the code means too. It also gives very detailed engine feedback, revs,temp, and real-time
information.
I will look for the adapter that I bought off Ebay.

i have one of the wifi ones the actual interfaces are really good but imo the apps are a bit unreliable

None of the cheap interfaces sold on eBay use genuine ELM scan chips -- easy to spot because the price is often cheaper than the bulk cost of
the ELM Scan chip.
These cheap interfaces sort of work on about 3 out of 5 (especially Ford & Mazda) cars equiped with OBDII but the communication between the
car ecu and the interface is slow and unreliable , and they may not access all the live data functions the ELM327 can.
The better diagnostic software checks if the Elm chip is genuine some will flatly refuse to work with the fake chips others software including
the Torque app will just disable functions and warn of comms errors.
This is OK if you are paying sub £15 for a USB or BlueTooth interface fine but the extra premium for the wifi version makes too big a risk.
If you don't have a Laptop/Netbook it might be best to buy a decent handheld scanner for the same money Autel MS509 OBD

I have a Netbook with a Gendan ELM 327 interface, I got the iPad to replace it as it seemed the more elegant solution, and to be fair it does 80% of
the work the Netbook does, but has been hobbled by Apple ie:limited Bluetooth connectivity and no USB port.
It came with iOS 5.1 so I can't jailbreak it to be able to use the Bluetooth
Thanks for all the feedback, I think I will wait for a jailbreak solution and not sell the Netbook until then.

I use an ELM327 bluetooth adapter bought on ebay, and paid version of the Android app "Torque".
These are both great and have saved me a bunch on services for my Merc.

Speak from experience of owning an older real Elm serial ISO protocol interface and two fake Elms 327s one USB and one BlueTooth format
The old real ELM is fast and reliable and always connects.
The ELM327 interfaces from China on ebay are fakes --- they are iffy usually they work ok but even then they have limitations in the
won't connect at all to some vehicles and and sufferer from slow and unreliable comms between car ecu and the car ecu. For £15 or so they
are a good gamble but not for more than that.
The Torque App and most other OBDII software websites have more on this

Hi,
I just wanted to let you guys know that I've bought a CLK WiFi OBD2 interface from eBay along with the DashCommand app for the iPhone/iPad.
First impressions are very good with no problems at all setting it up to talk to my Toyota Aygo. I was torn between buying the "Rev" app
or "DashCommand" but the latter won due to apparently more current development effort (Rev is pretty much dormant) and in my opinion a
nicer look and feel.

So the upshot is, I don't care if this has an ELM genuine chipset or not, it works really well and looks a lot better and is more flexible than
a typical handheld fault code reader. It does fault code resetting, data logging and allows you to create nice dashboard layouts to show whatever
parameters you want. In my opinion, for around £85 all in, this isn't a bad deal. You can also download ScanXL from the Palmer Performance
website to allow you to replay your data logs and print them out or whatever.
Give me a shout if you want any more details. I'll be messing about with it during my commute for the next few days anyway.

I gave up on the iPad in the end and bought a £10 bluetooth adaptor from the bay, and installed Torque Pro (does everything Dash Commander does, for
£4) on the Samsung S2, so £14 all in  I am one of the lucky ones because it all works.
Bonus! Torque now works with USB, and unlike the iPad, the S2 has a functioning USB port, works perfectly with the Gendan Elm 327 USB adaptor

Sorry, I must have missed your post the other day. Just wanted to respond on the USB thing - I've never found the lack of a USB port (or SD card
slot for that matter) on the iPad to be a problem as I far prefer to do everything wirelessly anyway. I can plug in my camera connection kit which
provides both a USB port and SD card slot for transferring camera images, but I rarely do. Wireless is the way forward for sure. As for Torque Pro,
I'm sure it is a good app too although I feel a bit sorry for the developers as they are very unlikely to make much money selling it for £2.95
(current price). For me to take advantage of this "cheap" solution I would have to go out and buy an android phone or tablet just for this
one purpose because there is no way I could switch to android after using an iPad and iPhone for several years...make me shiver just thinking about
it...
I could have jailbroken my iPad/iPhone and then installed DashCommand for free but as a software developer myself I wouldn't want to rip off a
fellow developer. These guys have produced a good product and it appears to be well supported in their forums and has regular updates. If Torque Pro
keep selling their app for just £2.95 then you might find that support and updates are not so forthcoming in future. I do hope I'm wrong
though.
Very happy so far with my Wifi interface and DashCommand.
