alternatives to lifting chain
Just a quick question really, I want to do the locost thing when it comes to lifting the MX5 chassis up. I'm happy with the choice of engine
crane, but I haven't got any chain. I do have;
1. Ratchet tie down strap with nylon webbing.
2. Climbing rope.
Both are rated to a few thousand kg's breaking strength, and both are long enough to double up as well. I'm slightly edging towards the
tie down strap mainly because the climbing rope is dynamic. Anyone got any thoughts?

Straps are ideal, a lot easier to handle than chain.

I usually using webbing straps as I usually have a few lying around, they are easily adjusted to length, you can double them up, kinder to soft metal
parts and most important, IF they break, its a usually a more gentle failure, giving you time to move toes. Chain tends to go with a bang

I would go with the slings, I have a couple I use and are a lot easier than chain, just make sure the rating is ok, and that they dont slip.

I bought a load leveller when I was doing my V8 swap, and it was my favourite tool. Being able to minutely change the angle of the dangle as I
negotiated the engine and gearbox through the chassis made it worth it's weight in gold.

They're going to be donated to the new car!
Looks like the straps have the vote, thanks all.
