seatbelt modifications
Hi All
Not sure if I can do this or not but I would like to change the anchor points of my seat belts from clip-on to bolt on this would mean cutting
the stitching and re-sewing the new ends on. I have an industrial sewing machine and I believe the correct type of thread is size 138 bonded nylon
sewing thread any one know if this is legal cheers .

I highly doubt you can tbh. Also, if you're asking, that says to me you shouldn't!
Whats wrong with clip in?
Eye bolts bolted in, clips clipped on, done!

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

If you want to change them then buy the ones you want. Do not risk your life on your ability to sew correctly.

Interestingly the force that a seatbelt strap should be able to hold and there are several different requirements for shoulder lap etc is 26689
newtons or about 6000lbs
The forces exerted in a crash at even moderate speeds are I believe exponential that is they increase by the square of the speed i.e. Twice the speed
4 times the force
That's why a passenger holding a baby would not be able to keep hold of it in a crash.

I reckon you would be ok, the towing straps for my land rover are stitched, which did surprise me so must be pretty strong.
BUT don't do it, the cost of a new set of belts is less than a motorised wheelchair or funeral. Chances are you would never test out the
stitching but why worry each time you go for a drive?
