2009 893 Locoblade
Reluctantly for sale is my rebuilt 2009 Fireblade 893 Locost.
The reason for sale is simple - we recently had a week tenting in Scotland and the weather was horrendous. So bad infact that the Mrs refuses to camp
again, so I'm trying to free up some funds to buy a camper.
I bought this in December 2013 from a LCB member who had dismantled the tatty bodywork with a view to replacing it with a Jag E Type style body,
however, the dimensions didn't work out, so he sold it to me.
It passed its first MOT in November 2014 with no issues whatsoever.
In my ownership, I have done the following:
Hand painted the chassis with POR15
Rebuilt the English rear axle with new bearings, pinion seal and oil
Rebuilt the front hubs with new bearings and brake rebuild
Fitted brand new bodywork made of lighter fibreglass than original
Sprayed he bodywork in bright orange plasti spray (it's orange on the V5 and plasti spray flexes more than proper paint)
this coating can be peeled off and re sprayed easily
Real carbon fibre boot lid and side panels
Replaced engine filter and oil
New headlights
Rear LED high level brake light
Car fully rewired professionally at huge cost by a local autoelectrician
Carbon fibre dash with savage switches
Acewell digidash
Aluminium fuel tank
Aluminium rear diffuser
Refurbed minilites with almost new Yokos
Brand new coilovers
Powder coated upper and lower arms
Spares:
Tonneau cover
2 x spare Fireblade engines
Spare set of carbs
Unused billet sump
2 x spare pairs of half shafts (4 shafts in total)
Spare rear axle casing
Pair of rear drums
Bottle of brake fluid
A box of random bits (mirrors, old headlights, rear lights etc)
I'm not sure about the current engine or spare engines mileages, however, it seems to pull well.
I have 2-3 folders full of paperwork for the car and how to guides etc.
I'm not in a mad rush to sell, so I'm not wanting to swap it for a Mars bar and a packet of crisps!
The car is located in Middlesbrough and can be viewed most sunny evenings (it only goes out in wet weather).
Below are a few pictures of the rebuild from day 1 to the present day.....
Before
After
In all honest, the car isn't going to win best in show and there are a few things to be done to get it 100% eg fixing a magnet to the shaft for
the speedo, calibrate the speedo/rpm etc, wrap the wiring up under the dash, but all of the hard work has been done.
Bearing in mind all the new parts that have gone onto it and all the spares included, the price is £5250 ovno
Any questions, feel free to ask

it's just the majority of users on here are locost 'builders', not looking for completed cars
Pistonheads and EBay are your best bet.

Ive tried to sell cars before and sometimes wondered why i haven't got the asking price or its remained on sites without any interest. Its two
things price and desirability if these are wrong it wont sell, or get a comment. To be blunt its not that desirable at that price, it might be your
cup of tea but it might not appeal to the majority of folk who it has to.
A quick look at cars that have sold on here, and they tend to be a better spec than this one, newer engine, more gizmos maybe use parts from known car
like caterhams etc (rear arches for example).
As mentioned a bargain price might sell, but it might not satisfy yourself.

^ I'd tend to agree, especially this time of year. If I was in the market for a car like this then I'd probably be expecting to pay less
for this sort of spec. If a lower price isn't going to be enough for your camper fund then just drive it and enjoy it

Thanks for the comments. I'd say the pricing is fair considering the spec and spares list to be honest:
Brand new MOT
Effectively brand new minilites with yoko rubber
Brand new headlights
Brand new suspension
Powder coated front end
Acewell digi dash
Real carbon fibre panels
Spare axle, brakes and 2 pairs of shafts
Billet sump
2 spare engines
Spare carbs
I haven't advertised it down all the possible channels yet due to the time of year.
If someone wants it, great, if not, it can happily sleep in my garage over winter

Lol, you're persistent, I'll give you that! If I end up keeping it, I may as well put the sump on Matt. I'll keep you in the loop
though!

Why don't you list some of the spares separately to see if you could then drop the price on the car.

my old car!
Yes - there was plenty to improve on her, and you seem to have the majority of it already.
Sorry to hear about the re-wire, that car has now had 3 full rewires, all professionally done, first was a disaster, 2nd was done well and car was
100% reliable in my ownership - not sure why it needed another - but peace of mind for the new owner
Just to outline a point you have missed, the car handles very well as it was set up by a suspension specialist who made the top wishbones bespoke to
his own design, so that it properly self centres unlike most of the bodges you see.
The car is great fun, and the 893 engine isn't to be underestimated (though often is).
I sold the car nearly 5 years ago when it was a year old to an odd chap (bit of a wide boy), who ran it into the ground by the looks of it
Ref the price, I sold it for a bit less in 2011 (when it was less than 2 years old), though you have invested quite a bit of time/money into it and
with the spares I think it's not a terrible price (though maybe not the most tempting either). I went down the route of listing it cheaper to
attract attention. This is the old ad http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=158636 unfortunately I then got bumped down quite a bit more
as the speedo stopped working...
Problem is with a BEC it tends to attract types who want maximum power, maximum chassis tech and maximum bling - this car doesn't have any of
those 3. Get someone in the passenger seat though, and take them sideways down the local back roads and they will see it's a cracking little
car, and as I have said above, you have done a proper job of fixing some of the issues it had.

Thanks for the info Dangle!
Im not going to dispute the price, as I believe its more than reasonable, especially for the whole lot. The refurbed minilites, brand new tyres,
billet sump, two spare engines and a spare set of carbs are worth £1k of anyones money. At the end of the day, I don't need to sell it, so
I'll leave it on here to see if there's any interest.
In the meantime, I'm going to do lots of work on her over the winter months and spend some money getting her track day race ready
If it doesnt sell, I may as well enjoy it!
With regards to the rewiring, the lad I bought it off had stripped a lot of wiring out and made a new loom, but had used incorrect bore wires
apparently. The auto-leccy said it would have been a fire hazard to bodge it back together, so he re did it from scratch.

I'm not selling any parts off yet Stevie and if I do, I've already given Matt first refusal on the sump. By the looks of it though,
I'll be keeping the whole lot and enjoying it next summer!

No worries. You just know keeping it makes sense
