welding stainless steel???
one mof my work mates is looking to weld some new rails for the guard rail on the front of his speedboat.
its 25mm marine grade stailess tube.
any recommendations for which welder to buy?
failing that - anyone interested in this as a paying job? viper?

bit excessive to fork out for a welder to do that small job isnt it?

well thats the problem- either do it yourself, and have to buy a welder..
or get some skilled bloke to do it!
as i said before- anyone fancy it?

my 100a mig welder will weld stainless EVEN with mild stell wire! I wouldnt recommend it for structural uses and certainly not so with mild wire. The
welding experts will be able to clue you up more, but if my humble welder can do it, it might not be that specialist.

How long do you think mild steel welds onto stainless will last in a salt spray environment??

You can arc weld it with the correct rod, the welds are really smooth and beautiful, you can MIG it with stainless wire but I cannot remember which
gas!. The professional way to go it TIG, but a decent inverter set will cost you £300 plus the gas
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

I weld stainless day in day out but your a wee bit to far South to make it worth my while, If you have an arc welder I can prob get give u couple of
suitable rods and throw em in the post for u, but any decent welding supply company will have em in stock.

I had a go with stainless wire on my mig. Tried pure argon and it was a pain..... so went with my trusty CO2 and have had no problems.

I welded my exhaust manifold with stainless wire and pure Argon gas. It was also a pain 
However, the chap at BOC told me that the Carbon in CO2 gas would be absorbed by the hot stainless weld. This would make the finished part brittle and
more prone to failure.
NOT bound to fail but MORE prone to fail
