Log splitter to bearing press?
I've just bought a 4 ton hydraulic splitter.
Contemplating my navel in the bath the other night (I know too much information) I suddenly wondered if you could use it as a bearing press.
There would need to be a bit of fabricating done to adapt it but any reason why not?
Answers on a postcard....

The only log splitter I've ever used was a log grenade and a maul . Suspect 4 tons will not be enough pressure to move a lot of bearings,
I've struggled using decent ten ton presses

As above, I think 4 tons might not be enough grunt.
Not used one for a while, but my memory of log splitters are horizontal rams pushing a wedge into the log. I'd have thought you'd need
quite some "tooling" to provide flat faces to press with.

Wow, I have a 10 ton upright press and have often wondered how to turn it into a log splitter!!!
Talk about reverse engineering!!!

PML ^ Coozer.
All it should take is a substantial wedge at the other end to the moving part.
To a man of your abilities.....

On the subject of log splitters a good ole' axe does the job fine and you get a bit more exercise with it.

Fine if you're young and flexible but all it takes is a bad back and a touch of arthuritis and buying a splitter seems like good idea....
