Cheap MAP Gas / Propane Torch - Any Recommendations

Hi,

I have a silver soldering project I'm hoping to complete over the winter and need to get myself either a MAP gas or possibly propane torch to do the job.

I appreciate that the well known brands such as Rothenberger, Monument and Bernzomatic are probably what I should choose but as it's only likely to be used for this one project I'm tempted by some of the look alike Chinese torches on e-bay.

Obviously I want something which is safe and had just about talked myself out of one of the e-bay offerings when I found out the even the well known brands are apparently made in China or Taiwan.

So, has anyone actually bought an e-bay Chinese torch and was it any good?

John.

in all honesty, the made in china thing is a red herring.
China can make superb quality when they try, or cheap tat

Have a look at toolstation, they have a small Vortex torch on offer at the moment. Or ebay, I got a new Monument torch for £25 a while ago.
