TIG welder. Your opinions.
http://www.migtigarc.co.uk/TIG_/tig_.html
two welders on this page interest me, the Butters AC/DC 160 Tig and the SureWeld Suretig 180. The butters machine doesnt mention hf start, but surely
it must at that price?
anyone have any experience of these machines, or opinions on them?
cheers.

Blimey!
Breaking all those Sierras must have paid better than I thought!
Would you be looking at the foot pedal as well? It really does make a massive difference to the control you get over the work.
I've done a bit of TIG (got my City and Guilds in it! ) and absoloutely love it... but not £1000's worth!
Sorry no helpful advice there- other than make sure you get a foot pedal!
Cheers,
James

Not had any experience of those 2 Joel, we have a Lincoln, which is brilliant (and a pedal with it)!

Either of those two Joel sound good, although there may well be others.
On an AC/DC TIG, the HF needs to run all the time when set on A/C.
On some machines you can set it to On, Off, or Continuous.
On others when you switch to A/C the HF switches to continuous automatically.
The Butters has the best duty cycle but the Sure weld is the higher amp machine.
It is surprising how much current is needed for ally because it conducts heat so well. (Water cooled torch?)
I have a Sure Weld and it's been faultless, D/C only though. (Made the odd can or two)
I think you should buy either, and have it delivered to me so I can test it for a year or two.
Then I'll give you a proper analysis.

The Suretig is a 400volt machine isn't it Joel? The Butters looks more portable.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
