Removing Alloy

One way of making the grinding discs last longer is by cleaning them by grinding some steel every so often in between your bits of alloy grinding.

Alternatively use a coarse (bastard cut) file. When filing alloy you can drag the file back over the work as this helps clear the file. When filing steel you should lift the file off for the back stroke otherwise you burr over the teeth.

Be careful grinding ally with steel grinding discs. They choke up then when you grind steel the ally packed in to the wheel heats up and expands and the wheel shatters.

Mr conrod,
Now this will sound totally bonkers but I can assure you it works just dandy......spin the clean disc up then run a bar of normal hand soap accross it....works on files as well.
You have to keep doing it every now and then but it stops the discs clogging up.

Cheers
Mark

But it could mean you produce some fine wine and cheese. Make the afternoons out better. Although it would take the work shy buggers a while.

Carbolic?

Get some of that carbolic soap and you won't need to grind it, it'll dissolve the aluminium from 10 paces.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

'Best' way would be to take it to local engineering company and get them to stick it on a milling machine. Should be a very quick/cheap operation.
