Mig Welder Bulk Buy - CaLviNx ?

Any chance of a mig welder bulk buy when you've finished sorting the tig sets ?

Sure lots would be interested for those of us who haven't the time to learn to TIG and get good results. I know I'm looking around at MIG sets at the moment and wondered what you could offer given your contacts ?

Thanks for looking,

Mike

Was thinking of a decent home use MIG. Single phase sorta 170-180 Amps would be more than enough for what I'd need - the one you have is very nice, but way over the top for what I need to do.

Can you have a look and post up / u2u some details of what's possible and some prices etc. ?

Looking to buy in Feb / March

Cheers,

Mike

Give the man a break guys! He's not hardly finished the last one and had time to play with the new toys yet! Think its very generous of him to offer to do another one considering he'll be thinking of packing things to leave the country! Frankly - if I were Mark I'd be put off by the amount of hassle......but luckily I'm not I guess.......Oli.

Have a look on Alibaba.com for buying leads and import and export advice. They have a forum for people to ask all their questions.

To be honest Mark i think you are heroic or bordering on insanity for arranging such bulk buys. I work for a Chinese company and import all of our goods from China and i would still be wary of doing it. My contact out there has said that i just have to provide some web links and he would get the details etc but i am still wary of arranging anything.

Biggest problem is dealing with people this side who dont understand how it works. I would be gutted if left out of pocket and having to deal with the hassle of getting the goods from port and hoping they were all OK.

Hats off to you Mark. And all for zero profit!!!!! Mad i say, dont answer this but i sincerely hope you at least got ypour welder out of the deal, even that wouldnt cover the hassle factor.

I'm not knocking you Mark.

I would rather do anyone a good turn than a bad one but I certainly wouldn't put money up front to do it, not more than a fiver anyway .
I've looked at tig sets but not been able to find enough use to make me buy one. There'll be some cheap ones on ebay soon I'm sure . I've used tig on steel many years ago and I can see how novices have problems with it as it's not point and squirt like mig. I still use my oxy-acetylene occasionally and if I am in a hurry will still turn to the arc welder in the shed.
Have a look at R-Tech on ebay to see what you can make on a welder, they claim to make their own and sell them from their website but the same setup is sold by Chiry and I bet it's a lot less than they are asking.

fatfranky put it best in his thread about tig settings

"you cant buy a car, then keep asking the seller how you drive the bloody thing"

And trust me in the case of the tig sets it has shown me just how anal a very very small core of site users are, and no matter how many times you tell some the same thing if they don't understand it your on a hiding to nothing even attempting to explain things.

So you CAN take it that NO I WONT be organizing a SITE group buy ever again, its not worth the trouble........ anything I do import, will be shifted via fleebay to the highest bidder.
I've read this a few times and feel this deserves a response from a buyer.

This dissatisfaction of yours on how the process went is news to me. I just sent my cheques off at the appropriate time and asked clarification of a few setting when I didn't understand the manual. I think it's to be expected that some people like me won't have any experience of the kit they've bought and would definitely turn to the supplier for advice as they would be seen as the person with the most experience of the kit.

If you have issues with some people then why not take it up with them privately just as you would expect us to privately take up any problems we had with the kit with you.

I don't like the inference that as a group of buyers we have been 'trouble' for you. You set the terms and I personally followed them without question even when that meant sending someone I had never met 400 quid up front for kit. If these terms didn't work out then you should have said and as a cooperative group we could have either chucked in a bit more to cover costs or opted out which would leave you free to ebay the kit. I didn't hear anything along these lines at all.

Regards,

Mark

The very reason YOU knew nothing of the hassles I had , was because YOU didn't give me any problems, so what reason during the process should i make you aware of any issues I was having with a very few buyers and prospective buyers ?

What HAS been perceived, is that In doing nothing more than organizing a GROUP BUY, some thought I somehow become a FULLY fledged retailer.

All I did undertake the task of doing everyone a great favour, of providing over a grands worth of kit with a 60% discount.

What I draw the line at is for example, when you get someone phoning you at 8:00 in the morning getting all agitated and aggressive to my wife because a certain number is NOT on the receipt , between that and the abuse for failures of certain prospective buyers own doing does, become tiresome.

Also as mentioned I didn't have to put MY OWN money up front to help out other people, but thats what i did, then to be treated by CERTAIN individual as i have makes it very tiresome, you also note I usually name names, in this case I havent.

I even went so far as to arrange a warranty , when in reality I could and should just say "right heres the factories details take it up with them"

I really do give up....... you try to help people out and they are just so keen to stab you in the back...

I'm not trying to denigrate your efforts but to point out that there are quite a few people out here who are very pleased with what they got and bought it to assist them with the car and we aren't all a pain in the arse. This type of fall out always seems to be the result of a group buy and anyone undertaking one should be aware of what happens. My contention with the way these tig threads are going is that we are not, despite the inferences, all out to wring the last blood from you Mark.

I think one of the problems on here is that by the very nature of this site, there are a lot of cheapskates! (and I'm not referring to Dern, or ANY of the other buyers of the TIG's etc)

Now I don't spend "unwisely" myself, but I don't mind spending money if it makes sense in the long run, hence my constant recommending of decent kit and spending some more money etc.

I remember a well known kit manufacturer chatting to me about how he struggles to sell some part or other because of a couple of quid price difference, but then cited the very typical example of the chap who spends half a day and £20 worth of petrol getting a "cheap part" off ebay, when he could have just ordered it from him for less off the shelf.

I certainly would not want the irksome task of selling what is not a 2p type of machine to people on this site, without knowing them personally first. At the end of the day you can either afford it or you can't. If you can't, then sub the job out. If subbing it out costs more than the machine, buy the machine, simple as that.

I only finally relented and bought my tig because I could build my olwn exhaust manifold AND buy the TIG cheaper than buying an equivalent off the shelf manifold.

When I mentioned this on here i had all sorts of "enquiries" about making manifolds along the lines of "ooh thats nice can you do me one for £200"

Well no, because my time/electricity/gas/welding rod/cutting discs/capital equipent etc etc is worth around £30 an hour, and the materials would be £150 ish and I would have to collect them (2 hr round trip) and then I would take around 12 to 15 hrs to make the manifold, so you are looking at £600, which is similar to what Simpson exhausts will quote you (well, they would be £100 more approx).

Unfortunately with today's workload, time is more precious than money to many people, and thus is expensive. Certainly I am subbing out turning jobs at the mo even though i have a lathe which can do the job, simply because I don't have enough time, and my time can be better spent fabricating, and leaving turning to someone that can do it faster than me.
