tig welding help

Hi just trying to see what its like to tig weld i only have migweld 5 gas and i am experiancing the electrode burning and balling is this because i need pure argon or am i doing somthing else wrong cheers for any advice Rick

You need pure argon. I tried the same when I got my tig but had the same probs as you. It eats electrodes doesn't it?? Get the right gas and you'll be amazed at the differrence. Also I bet your having to go really close to strike the arc are'nt you??

Have you got the positive & negative leads the right way around?

For DC TIG welding the -ve is the torch and the +ve is clamped to the workpiece.

Most heat is generated in the +ve piece, hence if you have the torch +ve, it will burn away the tungsten
