Circlip Removal?

I need to change the wheel bearings on my Atom sometime soon.

As is commonly the case, the bearing is held in situ by an inner and outter circlip. The circlips on the Atom don't have any 'eyes' to help in their removal!

So my question. What is the best way to remove these circlips? Is there any technique?

That's the way I would normally do it too, but, the hub on the Atom is 'priceless' and I would need to be so careful not to damage it.

Can you use a small pick or screwdriver to get inside the circlip?

You need 3 hands.

A thin electrical screwdriver and something to stop the circlip from spinning in the groove. Push the screwdriver under the end of the clip and twist it so it lifts it out then work it round.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

sounds like a snap ring.

use one scre driver as a "stop" on one side then insert another in at 45 deg to channel bottom and slide in.

It should lift out of the groove and you can slide the screw driver round flicking it out.

Usually take a while to build up a technique.
