One day I'll remember...

...not to turn brass in the lathe unless I've got proper shoes on.

I've now got socks full of tiny sharp brass needles... and they sting.

(When machining brass, if you've got everything set up right, you get a plume of brass needles flying off - in this case, onto my feet!)

Binned a pair of rigger boots a couple of years back for the same reason, bits flew in the wide tops and stuck in the fur lining.

You can dance a fandango in riggers!!!!

Just wrap a bit of Gaffer tape round the top of your boots / to your trousers when doing jons like this. Looks daft, but works, and is cheap.

When I remember, I put on a pair of work boots and overalls. Even a normal pair of shoes will do the job as long as my trousers cover the top edge.

At least I was wearing a pair of leather mocassin-type shoes (OK - slippers!) so no bits got stuck in them.
