Synchrometer?
How useful are these things for setting up 4 bike carbs?
I don't have take-off points for the '4 gauge' things.

How are you supposed to sync them on the bike then?!?!?!

Shove it up the spout of each carb in turn! I should add that this is '4 bike carbs on a car engine'.
Start with the 'master carb', in my case, the one with the throttle cable fitting. Then work your way along to each carb in turn, trying
to make them match the first one.

LOL! I know that bit!!!
What I was trying to get at is this- if there aren't take-off pipes on the carbs presumably you have to use a synchrometer like that....
I was wondering whether the bike manual told you to use one- in which case it's probably okay

i have one and there good,
some bike carbs have an order in which you have to do them!
on some bikes it is possible to access the air intake from inside the air box

Ive used one on my throttle bodys, you need to be able to seal the tapered tube against the inlet of the carb so as all the air is taken in through
the metering device , which could cause a problem on some set ups.
Apart from the above they seem accurate and easy to use.

Ben,
I think the bike originally had the take-off points on the inlet manifold - and I've now got a totally different, home-made manifold...
My manifold doesn't have room for me to fit my own connection points, so I'll have to use summat stuffed in the orifice (ooer!).
Everyone else,
I think the tapered bit will just about fit properly into the inlet cone - the standard taper covers 40 - 55mm and my inlet is a tight 40mm.
If it doesn't it's more cash for a different tapered bit.
The adjustment order is fairly clear on my carbs - number 1 cylinder's carb has the throttle cable, and all the rest are linked from there:
screws link 1-2, 2-3, 3-4. It worked when I did it by ear this morning anyway!

On all the bikes I've done in the past the order doesn't seem to be that important, whats is important is that they are all the same, so
don't stress yourself trying to get the other 3 to match your master one, just get them all the same and It'll be right.
