SIP MIGMATE

what is the general opinion on the SIP Range of welders?

ive come across a cheap 150 amp MIGMATE and i am just wondering if it is cheap for a good reason (i.e Crap) or if it is a good deal?

should i just save my pennies and get a clarke?

cheers

Matt

No personal experience but they seem to get bad press for poor wire feed which is a real problem. See the guide on here. In fact check out the whole forum, very useful.

I'd avoid, the "hobby" SIP range has a crappy plastic wire feed mechanism, it's among the most flimsy on the market

See http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/

Oooops, sorry Mole, I seem to be repeating your post

didn;t have the 150, mine was a 110 I think. Got it cheap and gave it away for nothing as it was utter rubbish!

AVOID unless you get to see it working properly IMO.

the feed roller is a bit cheesy. You will also want to change the linear before use. With setting up and practice it will weld a chassis up just fine.

Avoid feed mechanism is cheap and nasty and under powered, fan rotor came off the shaft on mine.

More expensive pro Sip welders are better but not good value for money.

If paying sub £200 buy a Clarke

My SIP 150 sits up the corner. I had it for 8 years, and still cant get on with it.

I prefer my Rehman TIG. Much better all round. only downside is the Argon Bottle Rental.

Anyone got a spare Argon Bottle?? (not the hobby ones)
