Milling tools?

I'm after some milling tools to cut down my index lathe tools...

I want to use a milling tool to cut 6mm off the index tooling in my Harrison lathe so they fit the standard tool post.

I've had a look round google and ebay but I'm not too sure

Anyone point me to where i can get a fly cutter?? or whatever tool that will work in a lathe??

Battered,
Steve

Hi Coozer

From your description I'd say you want an end mill slightly larger in diameter than the width of the tool. I have bought a few from "TONY4CATS" on Ebay.
Stick this in the chuck and mount the tool to be machined on the toolpost. You may have to make up a clamp/fixture for this.

You can then use the lathe as a sort of hirizontal mill.

There's a good article HERE

(EDIT) On the other hand just use Mr Angry Grinder.

Hi
If you have a four jaw chuck you can mount a lathe tool in the chuck and use that as a fly cutter.
Some of the indexing tool holders are made of quite hard steel and can be quite difficult to machine.
Perhaps angry grinder and a finishing cut with the fly cutter.

If you've got a 4 jaw chuck you can put the toolholder in there and face it off.
