Rebuild drive shaft cv joint

Is there a trick to re-fiitting the ball bearings \ race back into the cv housing.
I can get the race and ball bearings back in with no problem but can't get any movement on the joint as it locks up once I have everything back in.
The joint is the bolt on sliding \ pivot type.

the slots that the ball bearings run in should cross each other rather than align. Other than that they should be ok.
