I don't make a 'book' chassis flat pack as this is what most people call the RC 'Locost' and as of last month I no longer supply the Haynes Roadster or the TMXR as a flat pack either, I'm only supplying pre-made chassis and wishbones from now on.

I have an intention to build a Locost racing machine with and for my son who is 13, in the hope that it would be ready for him to race in Club 750 Locost when he's 16.

ProComp and Talon have both told me that they don't supply chassis, flat-pack or otherwise that would comply to the Ron Champion book and comply with the Club 750 Locost regulations. (ProComp by 'phone and Talon by e-mail)

Anyone know of someone who does supply a flat-pack chassis that would comply with those regulations, or should I be looking at another budget way to get into car racing ready for the happy occasion when my son turns 16?

I believe that I would/should make adjustments to the chassis for the suspension mounting points to make the resulting chassis handle well, but I think I need to get started and work that out when I have the metal. I know an excellent welder who's willing to put the chassis together for me at a very reasonable rate, along with roll cage if I measure it, mount it on a board and tack it.

Or should I just bite down on the thought that it's going to be too complicated to get a Locost chassis that's good for racing and get an off the shelf chassis like: -

Looking to have enthusiasm re-established for this very early project.

The Ron Champion version of the chassis is considered 'old' now (especially as donor Escorts are like hens teeth), the Haynes chassis was meant to address some of the problems (although it seems to introduce some of it's own!).

If you have the ability/access to weld, wouldn't straight lengths of metal and a hacksaw do just as good a job? Why does it have to be a purchased flat pack?
