Indy Bonnet Bulge

When buying the Indy Bonnet will I need/have to have the bonnet bulge when using a bike engine?

I like the classic styling and would probably rather not have it but obviously if its needed its needed.

You'll need a bulge if you're going to use an air box.

You'll need an air box if you want to keep noise down for track days.

If you don't care about noise for track day, and you use a sausage filter (like TTS) then you don't need a bulge.

Maybe not

I have an airbox with a cone air filter and it fits under the bonnet ( I have a bulge but it wouldnt matter)

You could then run a cold air feed from the front to the filter with a pipe

I'll rephrase - you'll need a bulge if you're going to use the standard airbox from the bike!

You can of course get small air boxes, like the Pipercross 600 airbox with remote filter.

This cheesed me off a bit.... I ordered my Indy kit and because i told them i was fitting an R1 engine i was supplied with a bulge on my bonnet, told i need one or it wouldn't fit. Now the car is nearly complete i can see there was no need for it, i do have a sausage filter fitted.

Whether you need a bonnet bulge or not really depends on the engine you intend fitting.

It looks like it will be an R1... Not sure on age or if i can afford it a ZX12r.

Not strictly true. We've got an GSXR 900 exhaust on ours and a TTS filter and it only reads 97 Decibels you don't need an airbox to keep noise down just a more sensible exhaust... Ok it might sound more poorly but if you are willing to research and look at different options you can still get well under the track day limits.

An airbox will help though, but you don't have to have one to be quiet.

I alway find they look at exhaust readings more than induction noise even though it is the induction noise making the most sound... It's all down to the descretion of the track at the end of the day... one day you might be OK one day it might be over... The best plan is to have something with you that can baffle the noise.

I personally think they look better with the bonnet bulge. A more agressive look.
