Well I'm inching ever closing to stripping my donor bits from my MX5.

The car is double wishbone at the rear.

My problem is the bolt which goes through lower wishbone, through upright is stuck solid. I've managed to take the nut off ok its the bolt itself.

I think its seized in the crush tube.

What are my options ?

I was thinking either drill chunks out of the bush or try and drill the bolt itself out in the hope it will collapse - bit worried that all I've got to grip on at the moment is the bolt head.

it might need a lot of pressure to come out, try taking it to a local garage and see if they pressure it out, i had a problem with my rear hubs from a sierra, one side came of nice and easy and the other was seized and a mechanic i know was nice enough to put it on his press and do it for me!

common mx5 problem.

Can't you get the stub axle on its side and hammer it out?

Could use a blow torch to heat it up a bit.

I've had another go at these tonight - copious amounts of WD40, breaker bar and brute force has now got me to the stage where the lower wishbone bolt is rotating in the bushes in the wishbones themselves.

But it isn't rotating where it goes through the upright. By which I mean if I hold the upright I cant turn the bolt, if I turn the upright the bolt turns with it.

I'm wondering at this stage (given I don't have any way to apply enough heat to it) whether I should cut through the bolt. There is a gap where the crush tube sticks out between the wishbone and upright which a thin cutting disc will fit down...

I was think it'd then be easier to drill the bolt out.

Is this a bad idea ?

Did you try a hammer to push it out? Daft question but.....

Could you submerge the lower wisbone-stub axle in a backet of coke?

Can't you use a chisel to cut throuth the rubber bush?

or what about the area between the lower stub axle? Isn't the bolt vesible open.

You could maybe try pouring boiling water out of a kettle onto it. Not as high a temperature as a torch but can apply more heat. Normally used to release drums from the hub but sometimes also works to loosen rusted in parts.

I don't know this setup so can't really offer any generic advice!

If you're pouring boiling water, you might aswell freeze it first for a few hours so it gets the maximum 'shock' from the hot water.
