hats off to you Steve, that looks fantastic

I for one would not have the patience required to turn out something lke that. It must be very satisfying to no you've made something unique.

How long for the rest of the build?

TPG - 21/3/06 at 08:48 PM

Stunning.Need an agent this side of the water?

CommanderAce - 21/3/06 at 08:51 PM

DIY Si - 21/3/06 at 09:09 PM

Very tasty indeed sir! My hat well and truly doffed to you. Only things is, you'll be putting the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car!

sgraber - 21/3/06 at 09:16 PM

Thank you, thank you all. Very kind words indeed. You may expect to see this car on your side of the pond. Martin Leigh of Praxis cars contacted me several months ago with the intention of importing La Bala to the UK. A RHD version is not difficult in the least. I already have a customer that wants one RHD here in the US.

kreb - 21/3/06 at 09:25 PM

Holly cow batman! It's nice to see something lustworthy come from this side of the pond to counter the plethora of offerings the brits have.

Very, very nice! You won't forget to say hello once in a while after you become a bigshot, will you?

Two thumbs way up here from FL....

Big congatulations Steve...that is the coolest thing I saw all week.

Looks first rate...having followed your build and seeing the care your took building it is only a matter of time before they will be lining up.

gttman - 22/3/06 at 06:02 AM

Very very nice, the finish looks superb.

you must now be counting the days before you get the car finished!

suparuss - 22/3/06 at 06:46 AM

cor blimey guvnor. looks miles better shiny, cant wait to see it with a screen and wheels etc.
and some yougs girls for the photo shoots obviously!

sgraber - 22/3/06 at 07:08 PM

Hot young girls will be a requirement! And not just for the car! hehehe. I also have access to any number of fighter aircraft and the tarmac at the local airport. I know a lot of those guys. My sis just gave me a book on Automotive Photography and I am going to try out some of the techniques when the time is right.

Just one thing to say steve very good work but you just have to update your Avatar now mate

zosima - 23/3/06 at 06:21 PM

I have been following this project since I saw it in Grassroots Motorspot. While I think the CAD concepts looked really good, the end result looks GREAT! Kudos!!! All the hard work and persistence is paying off.

sgraber - 23/3/06 at 08:53 PM

Tell you what, I really REALLY appreciate the response I get from this forum. Of all the places that I post, you guys really GET what it is that I am doing. So a big THANKS to you all for helping me stay motivated and focused on the product. It really is turning out pretty nice. I am quite happy.

Still a LOT of work to be done though... Maybe another years worth? Been at it for 3 so far!

tweek - 24/3/06 at 12:54 AM

Certainly, I can't recall the name just this minute, but I'll get the name, author and isbn# for you the next time I am home... (not very often these days)

I can't imagine that my chassis would pass the ADR's in its current configuration. I really don't know enough about them to say for sure. But I wouldn't be averse to shipping a body down under if you were to have a capable chassis for it...

ran - 17/4/06 at 01:36 AM

not fussed with getting it regoed here, it would be built as a race car.

This might work then. I am talking with a local (Arizona,USA) company about building track-only versions for their high-performance driving school.

Whatever the case. At this time it's really putting the horse before the cart though. I won't be selling anything until the car is fully sorted out. So expect that to be at least, at least, 6 months from now. I would not offer any product that had not been thoroughly and properly sorted at the track.

Progress report - Almost finished with the first 6oz layups. Here is a photo where I am laying up the gates and rolling out air bubbles along the flange for the rear deck and fenders.

sgraber - 16/5/06 at 01:52 PM

I finally found that book on Photographing cars. It was in my sons room. (good boy!)

"How To Photograph Cars. The enthusiast's guide to techniques and equipment" By Tony Baker. A Haynes publication. ISBN Number: 1 85960 855 8. It's a British publication.

Steve
That is some monumental effort and a GREAT result

sgraber - 16/5/06 at 03:56 PM

Thanks, I am now out to 12oz thickness on almost the entire surface. About 5 more days to finish the main layups, then it's on to the supporting steel superstructure.

sgraber - 29/5/06 at 09:19 PM

Well, it's done. The mould layups are completed. 12oz of mat and 3 oz of biaxial cloth.

Tomorrow or Wednesday will be a VERY BIG day. Removal of the moulds from the plug. I will certainly take lots of photos and shoot some video too.

I have added the steel superstructures to help carry the big moulds off the plug. They are not designed to reinforce the mould in any way. Then I'll build rotating stands for the front and rear pieces to ease manufacturing. They are big and probably very heavy.

sgraber - 8/6/06 at 03:27 PM

Now we are driving the car again and still prepping the moulds for the first part layups. That little car is just as fast as I remember it! 115Hp, 1122Lbs - Not spectacular, but better than most street cars.

RallyHarry - 9/6/06 at 05:33 PM

By the way, thanks for the book tip !
I'll start looking for it right away ( well, after dinner anyway:-)

Cheers
