Ive been trying to do a bit of research based around the "how to avoid a Q plate" when building a locost. I have all parts from a single donor (mazda mx5). Ive ordered my chassis steel through the welding and fabrication company i work for. Will that receipt be valid enough to prove its a new chassis for dvla upon application?

No real answer - as usual with the DVLA its hitandmiss job.
The old wording that was on the DVLA website stated it should be 'a chassis from a specialist kit manufacturer'.
However many have still achieved a age related, or even a brand new plate.
What you will want is receipts, plans and lots of photos, bombard them with so much information that they cant argue or cant be arsed to argue.

I think (as Loggy says) a receipt for the steel + photos of the steel in its raw lengths being transformed into the chassis should be enough to convince them. My own SVA examiner was shown an MK kit receipt + piles of build photos (including Ford Sierra donor strip down). He was more than satisfied and din't query that aspect of the build in any way. I'm aware that others have spoken to the examiners before the test to clarify requirements/expectations. Maybe it's worth a call or even a face to face visit before you put in for the test.
