Rally Design rack
liam.mccaffrey - 2/7/08 at 03:36 PM

just ordered a rally design escort quick rack.

They will not ship to the states because of their
"liability insurance" he wouldn't say any more about it other than they can't do it.

anyone know why their liability insurance would stop shipment to the states?

Is it cos the Americans would sue for $50,000,000,000 if they bruised their thumb on that rack?

But I'm not american, I wouldn't sue honest Guvnor

Hi Liam,

Welcome to "trying to get things sent to North America from the UK". Many won't send because they don't WANT to, and come up with all sorts of excuses to justify it. They will say things like "it will be horrendously expensive" and don't look for the cheapest courier etc. which is easy to do.

It is up to them to decide if they want your business, and my experience is that many in the UK don't actually want to work very hard. This contrasts sharply with the American attitude, of "give me money, and I'll sell you anything". It also explains why Canada and the US are full of expat Brits who tire of the prevalent British way of doing business - SWEEPING GENERALISATION and not necessarily true! A lawyer told me to say that.

lol, its a pita because i know that raldes used to send stuff all the time.

Oh well I don't think there is much else I can't get over here, plus I always have my parents who will forward stuff I need

SeaBass - 2/7/08 at 04:29 PM

Is it because the rack contains oil which being a petroleum derivative may be a PITA to ship on a plane?

JC

You want to try buying from the Yanks from the UK we get knocked back just the same, its frustrating cos all they have to do is change the address on the package and pay a little extra which is payed for by the recipient any how !!

Cheers for that, I guess the reason nah, I wont go there........

It's nothing to do with Rally Design not wanting to ship to the states or trying to avoid doing so....it is that their product liability insurance(which very few motorsport companies have because it is so difficult and expensive to cover) specifically precludes any goods shipped directly to the states and Canada...this is normal amongst insurance companies because they wish to avoid the litigation culture of those countries.

Just get it shipped to a mates place in the UK and forwarded to you.
The grease in the thing isn't a problem for shipping. The swarf I found in the grease inspecting my unit might be more of an issue.

The same issues arise getting stuff out of the USA its just too much of a PITA for people to deal with a lot of the time.
The last example I had was Amazon not wanting to send me a set of headphones due warranty concerns (their price $65 local $225. I'll take the risk thank you).
I have a buddy over there who acts as a forwarder for me so that solves that problem.

I actually had a problem with a guy in the States who would only ship to US addresses, so my comments are not limited... couldn't resist a dig...

I was going to pay extra but he still wouldn't go for it. I had to take a day off work and drive over an hour to a border town to pick it up. How much money do you think I could have made at work that day to cover any shipping charges? Yes, a lot more than the couple of hundred dollars. Borders scare people. I don't get it.
