How do you connect to the internet at the moment? If its broadband what is the make and model of your router as it may have a built in firewall that can be enabled which would be better than a software firewall anyway in my opinion.

Then just get avg or avast free for the anti virus.

Cheers

Done a bit of a google and orange live box does have a built in firewall but I would drop orange support an email asking if its on by default and if not, if they have any instructions on turning it on or even better if they can remote in and switch it on for you.

when you remove it make sure you read into how to do it properly. It spiders its way right through your system, so just leaving it there won't help speed it up.

Lots of advice online - I did it on my mates recently with dramatic improvements.

If you bank online with Barclays then you can get a free years subscription to Kaspersky which doesn't hog the system like some earlier versions of Norton.

Prior to that I was using AVGFree, Zone Alarm and Spybot

For and antivirus and security program Avira takes a bit of beating --- the free version has the same level of antivirus protection as the paid edition the main downside is that the update servers on he free edition are a bit over loaded hence updates can take a while to download. In any event worth paying for the latest version of the home premium edition as it has a lot of extra features.

If you have Xp or Vista and connect via a router you have enough firewalling unless you use your PC as an internet server. If you still want a seperate firewall you can download Kerio Person Firewall version v2.15 here http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=keriopf
NB don't download the later versions.

To be even more secure you should also do regular sweeps with Hijackthis

and also it is worth using Adaware.
