only today, searching on google, eg seach for "Blake V8" thats my name for DJing and dance music producing. where as the first two results
were bebo and myspace, they still are however:
type in the search, and the brwser goes blank, then a number appears, eg 4915, in plian black text, nothing else, screen goes blank again, then goes
to the URL http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&rls=com.microsoft%3Aen-us&q=blake+v8 (nothing unusual looking there)
and here's the result (notice the last one)...

Looks like you have a Browser Hijack.
Check the Hosts file in folder
c:Windowssystem32driversetc
File is called hosts and can be opened with Notepad should look like this below and can be used to redirect the browser to website spoofs :
----------------
# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
127.0.0.1 localhost
cheers fella, here's mine

looks the same any ideas what i should do with it? or is the example you posted of an infected one, which just happens to be the same as mine?
Try running adaware and hijack this. That should remove them.
Jon
i ran adaware once, it found something that loked like it could have been it (found over 190 things mostly cookies though, and 2 other things in the registry) deleted all them, then realised that although i just downloaded it today, it needed updating as the file list was from september, so updated it and running again now. its found another 25 things so far, its only half way through
I'd also try Spybot Search & Destroy.
Free and available here...
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
just tried Spybot Search & Destroy. found more stuff the other two didn't, but still doesn't fix it
now though, avast keep flagging up that its blocking access to a malicious site, IP address is 78.110.175.21, but it doesn't say how to remove
whatever is trying to access it...
