Is itunes that user unfriendly
mad-butcher - 10/1/09 at 08:46 PM

or is it just me, all my old albums are in media player complete with their covers (automatically by media player) itunes has done it's stuff and put them in it's library and playlist for my ipod touch, but all the covers have gone missing, keeps telling me unable to display album cover when in that mode, one of the reasons i picked the ipod was so as i could browse the covers to suit my mood, is this just another scam by apple to charge you for the artwork or am I doing something wrong

I had an ipod at xmas. In I tunes I found if I right clicked the album , select get info you can enter the cover file. I had trouble at first but soon got to grips.

And to register for the shop, you *have* to give them a credit card...

i seem to remember itunes saying you have to pay to get the pics...although if you save the pics to your comp you can stick them on...

have you tried clicking (from the toolbar) 'Advanced', 'Get Album Artwork'

?

You have to register with the itunes store to get album artwork. You have to use a credit card to register. I emailed complaining about that - they said that was the way it was but that you can then remove the card once registered.

Album artwork is good when it works but doesn't always manage to retrieve it. You can use your old artwork - if you still have it. It will be in a hidden file in each windows album folder (so you have to choose 'view hidden files' from the tools menu). Or you can find a suitable cover on the web. Sales sites are usually easiest but there are sites that do cd-cover art.

Either way, wherever it's from, in itunes, select your track or album and right click and do get info, and then artwork. Drag the picture you want into the space and it's done.

Make sure you have all tracks highlighted or do it from album view to do all tracks in an album. itunes only assigns the album art to the selected track.

There are other issues in that what you see on itunes is not always what you see on the ipod. But once it's sorted, itunes becomes very good. It's worth playing around with it with a few albums, specially 'various artists' type of compilations, before going for it and importing your whole library.

iTune is a non-intuitive and unfriendly application IMO.

I was burned by it some years back when it decided to completely re-organise my music collection after I foolishly installed it (seems I wasn't the only one!). Since then I have used Anapod Explorer which nicely integrates into Explorer and made the whole iPod experience more pleasant for me.
