I'm in the process of setting up a new UK based business while staying over here (France) and visiting the UK for 1 to 3 weeks per month. While I'm in the UK taking my customer's phone calls is no problem. What I'm looking to find is a way of transferring calls made to my UK office number over to France via the web for while I'm not in the UK.

Is this possible? Does any software/hardware exist? I know I could ask BT but I rather suspect that their solution may be a bit scary (£££££££).

Does anyone know of a solution to this one?

Failing that get a tesco internet phone and what looks like a landline telephone number and then you can receive phone calls wherever you are in the world

I use Vonage.

I have an office in the UK and a desk in the US where I work from time to time.

I get free calls between the two locations.

Think they do european calls as well so you can redirect calls for free to a french number.

Service has been excellent.

Should have said you also get an answer phone, web admin interface and its cheap.

Works with standard phones as well. No need to buy the Vonage phones or special VOIP phones as the vonage box does it all.

Do you mean transfering (as in someone in the UK office picks it up, decides you need to speak to the caller and so transfers the call to you)
Or do you mean forward (caller rings one number and that number forwards the call to either your UK phone or France phone depending on settings)?

Transfering your going to need a PBX (private branch exchange) This can be done quite cheaply using VoIP if done right. But needs to be done right to ensure you get the quality.

Forwarding can be done practically for free using VoIP again and the number you use can be an 08xx number or geographical.
You just pay the forwarding call.

BT can do a pretty interface to redirect numbers also but that is for 08xx numbers and 03 numbers and there is a charge of £100 to set it up. And probably a minimum minutes commit but Im not sure of this as the company ive just done this for use around 1k 0845 minutes an hour...
Plus they are bound to charge a fortune for overseas part.

Company called VOIPbuster used to do a free VOIP in number that was regional g Manchester etc

but this could then be "picked up" anywhere you were on the NET>

VOIP will be your solution. Service Like Skype / Vonage / VOIP Buster etc/
