Another outlook question
DarrenW - 2/4/09 at 08:37 PM

Is it asy to set myself up with a new email account and than configure it to use in outlook, even though i already have an account running on outlook?

New email address - i assume something like a gmail account is OK? I just want a free one, hopefully something i can also access from my smartphone.

I seem to recall ive ran 2 accounts from outllok before. Was a matter of creating new account and entering settings. Will i have to keep opening them up in turn or will they both run at the same time?

The way i do it is select 'Mail' in control panel. Then create a new profile and also tick the box to 'prompt for profile to be used'.

you can then set up two accounts and just select which one to use on boot up.

It's possible with any versions of Outlook, but easier with 2003 onwards - just click on Tools, E-mail Accounts, click the Add radio button and follow the prompts.

It's only slightly more difficult with 2000, but still not too hard.

And Gmail provide IMAP access too - saves you some of your bandwidth if, like me, your usage is capped. You only download the whole message when you open it.

The best way is set up a gmail account with IMAP and retrieve the emails from any other account with gmail under Settings>Accounts>Get mail from other accounts. That way you only ever have to set one account up on your computer or phone and all your emails will be there and synchronised across devices.

Thanks everyone.

How do i get a gmail.co.uk account rather than googlemail.co.uk? I assume they are both virtually the same thing.

You can use either form - fredbloggs@gmail.com or fredbloggs@googlemail.com - when you login. It seems to use whatever you enter as the sender of your messages. I login with "gmail.com" rather than "googlemail.com".
