Computer and internet problems, help please.
roadrunner - 17/5/09 at 08:04 PM

Within the last week or two my internet has slowed right down. If i am on this site i can not open another site, i have to close the internet down and re-open. Also my PC has started to freeze to the point i have to reboot and start over again. Any suggestions as my PC knowledge is only below average. Its Microsoft XP if that helps.
Thanks
Brad.

First thing I'd do in a situation like this is download a program like Speedfan and monitor your CPU temperatures.

Also burn a bootable CD of memcheck and set that running for an hour or so to see if you're memory is okay.

Then I'd consider changing browsers As well as running Adaware and Spybot- search and destroy to ensure you haven't got any nasties lurking on the system.

I have also noticed that if i refresh a page i keep the locost background but loose all text.

Careful here - some of these so-called spyware and registry fix programs are as dodgy as the spyware they are meant to deal with.
The best place to start is Spybot as per BenB's link (http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html)- this is a proper well known one which you can trust
