yup its mr computer numpty again, got a doober that plugs into my lappy to make it wireless, got the router at home and i cant get it to work, signal
strength is there and it says i,m connected but try to log onto firefox/e mail and it says no connection.
went to a mates today and showed him my problem...poxy thing logged onto an unsecure signal straight away and worked, got back home and its a no go
again.
i have an unsecured signal here as well but cant get it to work on that or my own one.
any ideas before i burn it?
Na just burn it!! You know you will enjoy it
Having the same problem with my Megasquirt tuning laptop (Win 2K), the wireless card in the lappy will see the wireless router (secured network) but
wont take a proper ip address from the router, if i manually give it an ip and set the gateway & dns ip's i still cant connect to the
net
Both my other lappys (win XP & Vista) connect fine...........
think my problem is DHCP related but dont know enough about DHCP to get any further.
tried to install xp from a restore cd and now cant boot
getting ready to throw it out the window and then set fire to the remains!
lets have a mass burning, put gordo on top
Check if your router has MAC filtering enabled. If set it will only allow devices with the MAC address listed to connect, independent of any
encryption schemes.

Doesn't it sound like the laptop is connecting satisfactorily to the router but that the router is not connected to the internet?

i gave up and napalmed the whole area just to make sure
The only thing I can think of that's not covered is maybe the lappy can't handle the wireless encryption (although that's probably the doober's problem) or the doober is of a different make to the router. Again that shouldn't make a difference but I had a router and wlan card that were the same specification but different manufacturers and they flat refused to look at each other
